The AI build-out

Compute is electricity, and electricity is metal. Copper is non-negotiable — data centres, grid, transformers, every motor winding; global supply cannot keep pace with the build-out already underway. Silver — the best conductor known — rides every electronic assembly and the solar fleets powering the racks. Tin is the sleeper: nothing electronic exists without solder, and the entire tin market is a twentieth the size of copper's. These three metals are our foundation hunt.

Horizon 2 This decade

Robotics

A robot is a magnet multiplier: dozens of NdFeB motor joints per unit, millions of units per year in every serious forecast. The value in "rare earths" concentrates in neodymium and praseodymium — with dysprosium and terbium wherever joints run hot — and the West currently imports its magnet chain almost entirely. Add graphite for the batteries and vanadium for the long-duration storage behind the factories, and robotics is a second, compounding demand wave on top of the AI build-out.

Horizon 3 The horizon

Galactic compute

Compute is already leaving the planet: orbital data-centre demonstrators, satellite mega-constellations, space-hardened electronics. Every kilogram launched is refined somewhere first — high-purity quartz for the crucibles and wafers, high-purity alumina for the coatings, helium for cryogenics and quantum systems, niobium and tantalum in superconductors and capacitors, and nuclear fuel for the small modular reactors that dense compute increasingly demands.

It sounds like science fiction until you price the supply chains — then it looks like a minerals shortage with a launch date. We build search images for these inputs now, while the ground is cheap.

The Honest Footnote

What we walk away from

Not every "critical mineral" is a good business. Most rare-earth tonnage is lanthanum and cerium, which price like byproducts — a deposit's worth lives in its magnet-metal fraction, and we test for that before we celebrate. Nickel and cobalt demand is real but drowning in Indonesian supply. We publish what we look for AND what we walk away from; disciplined subtraction is half the method.
